Amaravathi as the name of the AP new Capital City
The Andhra Pradesh cabinet on Wednesday approved Amaravathi as the name of the new capital city of the State. It also gave the nod to the first phase of the master plan prepared by Singapore government agencies.
The Cabinet, which met for about five hours, was briefed by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on his Singapore trip.
The Chief Minister suggested changes after the Singapore government made a presentation to Mr. Naidu on the first phase of the master plan during his visit. The master plan, it is learnt, would be uploaded by Singapore government on its website and update whenever changes are made in it.
Seeking to accelerate industrialisation of the State, the cabinet also approved the new industrial policy, according to official sources.
In view of the historic significance of Amaravati town, the cabinet approved its name. Besides reflecting the glorious past, it would also be a modern capital.
The sources said that the issue of levy of the entry tax by Telangana government on private vehicles also figured in the meeting and it was decided that AP government would write a letter to TS government to withdraw it, since Hyderabad would be the common capital for 10 years. If necessary, Mr. Naidu would speak to his Telangana counterpart K. Chandrasekhar Rao on the issue.
The Cabinet expressed its happiness about the grants given by the Central government and appreciated the role of Union Ministers M. Venkaiah Naidu and Y S Chowdhary as also the officials of the Finance Department. The State would continue with its fight for achieving a level-playing field
